Galun - Meltwith Myvoice EP press clipping

Moscow’s Galun builds his productions using only his mouth (well, and a computer). But this fact is much more than just a gimmick, as the singular choice of sound sources makes for some intriguing sonic layers as displayed on “Rainbow,” a cut from Galun’s recently released EP, appropriately enough titled Meltwith Myvoice (artwork above). Beginning with what almost sounds like an electric razor, “Rainbow” jumps all over the place, reaching almost operatic heights and then plunging to rumbling lows. Over the course of its four-minute runtime, it becomes apparent that even though the the Russian producer is only using his own voice, he’s nonetheless able to digitally manipulate quite the sonic arsenal.

Jumble rose to gigantic dimensions in 2011. Just like fellow Russian record label Gimme5 they stepped from local fame to international feedback. Now Jumble unleashed ‘Meltwith Myvoice’, a short EP by vocal artist Galun from Moscow. I know Galun for his cooperation with Monokle on their album ‘In Frame’, so I am quite excited about this one.
‘Meltwith Myvoice’ is completly produced from vocal sounds, heavily processed and altered so that it for vast parts makes no difference whether you hear a synthesizer or actual voice. Musically Galun merges IDM and instrumental Hip Hop and soaks his beats in a trippy, atmospheric backdrop of textures, pads, and melodies. Enjoying it a lot.

Moscow producer Galun has got a special little treat on his hands. While he does receive some assistance from computers, his music is entirely produced with his vocals. Employing howls, screeches, and beatboxing percussion, Galun takes music to a place I haven’t heard it go before.
